Our Epic 15-Day Family Fishing and Adventure Tour in Northern Vietnam: From Ha Noi’s Buzz to Ha Long’s Bite!
Are you dreaming of an Adventure Tour that combines heart-pounding fishing action with jaw-dropping family fun? Forget the standard getaway—our recent 15-day, 14-night journey through Northern Vietnam was the kind of trip that creates memories, not just photos!
From the moment we landed, this was more than just a fishing expedition; it was a full-throttle cultural dive, a feast for the senses, and frankly, the best family fishing trip in Viet Nam we’ve ever taken.

Why Northern Vietnam is a Family Angler’s Paradise
Northern Vietnam is not just postcard-perfect; it’s a genuine goldmine for both the seasoned angler and the family looking for variety. We discovered that the region offers incredible biodiversity—from placid lakes to winding rivers and the expansive sea—providing endless opportunities for lure fishing, fly fishing, and even learning some cool local techniques.

But here’s the secret sauce: this trip is designed so everyone wins. While Dad (or Mom!) chased the next big catch, the rest of the crew was trekking through mountains, cycling past emerald rice fields, kayaking in turquoise bays, or simply indulging in the local culture. It’s the ultimate combination of Fishing in Northern Vietnam and unforgettable family moments.
Days 1-4: Kicking Off the Adventure in Ha Noi and Ninh Binh
Our Adventure Tours From Ha Noi started with a bang!
The Ha Noi Food & Culture Blitz

After settling into our hotel, the real fun began: a dizzying, delicious Hanoi Old Quarter food tour! Forget boring hotel meals; we were slurping Beef Pho, devouring Bun Cha, and sampling the famous Egg Coffee. The kids, who usually complain about everything, were absolutely riveted! It was the perfect, informal intro to our 15-day itinerary.

The next day, we tackled the Ha Noi Fishing tours preparation—checking gear, buying local bait, and sharing a few pre-trip laughs. In between, we managed a whirlwind city tour, paying respects at Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and soaking up history at the Temple of Literature. Our tip: make sure you leave time for some spontaneous street shopping for fishing gadgets and souvenirs!

Ninh Binh: Halong Bay on Land (with a Fishing Rod!)

Just a short drive from the city, Ninh Binh felt like stepping into a movie set. Lunch was a local delight: mountain goat and crispy rice! The boat trip through Tam Coc/Trang An, winding between colossal limestone karsts, was absolutely breathtaking—a moment of serene family togetherness.

The Fishing Highlight: We spent a memorable day balancing sightseeing with some exciting stream fishing. The non-fishers had a blast cycling through villages, trying a local cooking class, and exploring Hoa Lu Ancient Capital. That evening, sharing the day’s catch (and the ‘one that got away’ stories) became a fun family tradition.
Days 5-7: Ha Long Bay – The Seafood & Squid Spectacular

No fishing trip in Vietnam is complete without the majesty of Ha Long Bay. Leaving the rice paddies behind, we arrived at this UNESCO masterpiece.

The Big Bite: Checking into our cozy floating house was the start of two incredible days. While the non-fishers were kayaking, swimming, and exploring hidden caves, the anglers were in heaven. Night fishing here is legendary! We were targeting species like snapper and grouper, and we even tried our hand at squid fishing. Imagine grilling the freshly caught seafood right on the raft for dinner—it doesn’t get any better than that!
Days 7-9: Ba Be Lake & The Cultural Heartland

A longer drive took us deep into the majestic North to Ba Be Lake, where we traded the ocean breeze for the tranquility of a lakeside homestay.
Cultural Immersion & Carp: The full day on Ba Be Lake was a highlight. We fished from traditional wooden boats with local Tay fishermen, learning age-old techniques. Whether you prefer lure fishing or traditional bait, the lake is ripe with carp and grass carp.

Cultural Family Fun: The rest of the family enjoyed a scenic boat trip to Dau Dang waterfall and trekking through Ba Be National Park. The afternoon was pure gold: visiting local Tay and Dao villages, seeing traditional stilt houses, and watching our kids instantly bond with local children over simple folk games. The evening, sharing corn wine and traditional music with our host family, was the heart of this adventure.
Days 9-12: The Spectacular Ha Giang Loop
The landscape changed dramatically as we headed towards Cao Bang and then the legendary Ha Giang.

-
Ban Gioc & Nguom Ngao: We stood in awe at Ban Gioc Waterfall, straddling the border with China, and explored the spectacular stalactites of Nguom Ngao Cave.

-
Ma Pi Leng Pass: The drive through Ha Giang to the Dong Van Karst Plateau and conquering the Ma Pi Leng Pass was epic. The emerald Nho Que River snaking below us was a view we will never forget. Exploring the historic Hmong King’s Palace added a layer of fascinating regional history to our trek. This section truly defines Adventure Tours From Ho Chi Minh (for those flying North) and Northern Vietnam‘s rugged beauty.
Days 13-15: The Final Cast and Farewell Dinner
Our long journey back brought us to the serene Ba Vi National Park, a green lung just outside the capital.
Final Lunkers: We hiked to Uncle Ho’s Temple on Tan Vien Peak before hitting a private lake for one last hurrah. This spot is known for bigger, challenging species like Pacu, Snakehead, and massive Carp. It was the perfect grand finale for our Fishing in Ha Noi experience.

Our last full day in Hanoi was a mix of last-minute souvenir shopping and an optional, but highly recommended, trip to an outdoor fishing park near Hanoi for some exciting catfish action. A delicious farewell dinner wrapped up the entire amazing Northern Vietnam Fishing Tour.
