Our Epic 15-Day Family Fishing and Adventure Tour in Northern Vietnam!
(Best time to reel in the fun: Late September to March)
Tired of the same old beach vacation? Ready to trade your sandcastles for stunning limestone karsts and your sunhat for a fishing rod? Then grab the kids (and your sense of adventure!) because we just had the most incredible, laughter-filled 15-day family fishing trip in Vietnam, specifically exploring the breathtaking Northern Vietnam.
This wasn’t just a fishing tour; it was a full-throttle Adventure Tour packed with culture, nature, and the kind of family bonding only a long road trip can deliver. Whether you’re flying in for Adventure Tours From Ha Noi or joining us from afar, trust me, this is one journey where every family member scores a “trophy” experience! (And for our friends down south, don’t worry, we’ll save the details of any possible Sai Gon Fishing Tours for another day – today, the North owns our hearts!)

Part 1: Hanoi – From Pho to Preparations (Days 1 & 2)
Our Adventure Tours From Ha Noi kicked off with a huge Vietnamese welcome! Forget jet lag; the electric buzz of Hanoi’s Old Quarter was all the caffeine we needed.
Day 1: Fueling the Adventure!
-
After landing at Noi Bai and checking into our hotel, we dove headfirst into a whirlwind Hanoi food tour. Imagine trying to keep track of a dozen delicious dishes – Bún Chả, piping hot Phở Bò, crispy Nem Rán, and the infamous Cà Phê Trứng (Egg Coffee) that sounds weird but tastes like heaven. That night, after briefing the family on our grand Northern Vietnam Fishing Tour, we snuck out to grab the last few essentials—mostly Dad’s “must-have” lures and Mom’s extra-spicy chili sauce.

Day 2: Culture & Chaos!
- We spent the day soaking up history, from the respectful silence at Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum to the architectural beauty of the Temple of Literature. But the best part? The afternoon rush! While the kids haggled for cute souvenirs in the Old Quarter, Dad was laser-focused on his real mission: prepping his gear for some serious Fishing in Ha Noi and beyond.

Part 2: Water, Wonder, and Whiskers (Days 3-6)
The next leg took us deep into landscapes that looked straight out of a movie set.
Ninh Binh: The Inland Ha Long Bay (Days 3 & 4)
A quick drive brought us to Ninh Binh, often called the “Inland Ha Long Bay.” After a lunch of local specialties like tender mountain goat and crunchy cơm cháy (crispy rice), we took a serene boat ride through Tam Coc/Trang An. The kids were mesmerized, and honestly, so were we.
-
Fishing Meets Family Fun: Fishing in Northern Vietnam kicked off here! Dad found local lakes and streams where he could cast a line, while the rest of us explored. The whole family got hands-on: cycling through vibrant rice paddies, trying to not mess up a traditional handicraft workshop, and even a cooking class where we learned to fold spring rolls like pros. The evening “fishing results” meeting was a hilarious spectacle of Dad showing off his tiny catch while Mom had a bigger score at the cooking class!

Ha Long Bay: The Sea-Fishing Spectacular (Days 5 & 6)
We traded the limestone mountains for the legendary limestone islands of Ha Long Bay—a UNESCO World Heritage site and the highlight of any fishing trip in Viet Nam. We checked into a floating house, ready for some sea action!
-
A Family Affair at Sea: The daytime was pure relaxation: kayaking through hidden lagoons, swimming, and exploring massive caves. But the real adrenaline rush came after sunset. Night fishing in Ha Long is an experience everyone can try! Armed with simple lines and bright lights, we tried our luck. Dad was after snapper and grouper, but the biggest laughs came from squid fishing—a jig, a splash, and a suddenly-inked teenager made for a very memorable dinner! The freshly caught seafood feast on the raft was the best we’ve ever had.

Part 3: Mountains, Ethnic Culture, and Epic Casts (Days 7-12)
Now for the real high-altitude, culture-rich adventure!

Ba Be Lake: Hidden Paradise (Days 7 & 8)
After a scenic drive, we arrived at Ba Be Lake in Bac Kan, a vast freshwater lake nestled within a national park. Staying in a cozy local homestay with a Tay ethnic family was a grounding experience.
-
Traditional Fishing in Vietnam: This was a true cultural immersion. Dad joined local fishermen on a wooden canoe, learning their traditional techniques. While he was casting for carp and grass carp, the rest of the family enjoyed a stunning boat trip, explored the Dau Dang waterfall, and trekked the park. The afternoon spent in the Tay and Dao villages—seeing stilt houses and watching the kids play simple folk games—was priceless. Our evening was spent sharing corn wine, music, and stories—it was community, not just tourism.

The Majestic North: Cao Bang & Ha Giang (Days 9-12)
The road trip continued, leading us through some of the most dramatic scenery in Southeast Asia.
-
Day 9: We were humbled by the sheer power and beauty of Ban Gioc Waterfall on the border, followed by a mysterious trek through the spectacular stalactites of Nguom Ngao Cave.
-
Day 11: Conquering the Pass: The drive through Ha Giang to the Dong Van Karst Plateau was pure exhilaration. We visited the historic Hmong King’s Palace, but the showstopper was the Ma Pi Leng Pass. Perched high above the emerald Nho Que River, the view here is the absolute definition of an Adventure Tour. It’s the kind of epic landscape that makes a 15-day fishing trip in Viet Nam worth every kilometer.

Part 4: Final Cast and Fond Farewells (Days 13-15)
Our grand loop brought us back toward Hanoi, but not without a few final stops.
Day 13: Ba Vi’s Big Ones!
-
We spent the morning hiking the trails of Ba Vi National Park, but the afternoon was Dad’s ultimate payday. We had a private lake fishing experience where the species were big: hefty carp, pacu, and even snakehead! It was the perfect bookend to our incredible Northern Vietnam adventure.

Day 14: Final Fun and Farewell.
-
Back in Hanoi, it was time for last-minute souvenir shopping (and yes, Dad couldn’t resist one more optional catfish fishing session at an outdoor park!). We closed our journey with a fabulous farewell dinner, swapping favorite photos and fishing stories (the big ones that got away, of course!).
This 15-day journey proved that Fishing in Northern Vietnam is about so much more than the catch—it’s about shared laughs, breathtaking views, and creating the kind of memories that stick long after the plane lands.
