The Ultimate Family Fishing Frenzy: Chasing Giant Barramundi and River Monsters in Vietnam!
Hey there, fellow fishing fanatics and adventure-loving families! If you’ve been dreaming of a fishing trip in Vietnam that’s less about boring boat rides and more about adrenaline-pumping, line-screaming action, then pack your bags (and maybe a stronger rod!).
Our recent 2-day, 1-night Barramundi Fishing tour chasing the notorious Barramundi and an array of true Giant fresh water catch fish was an absolute blast—a hilarious, messy, and incredibly rewarding adventure perfect for any family looking for a unique getaway.

Day 1: The Barramundi Barrage – Where the Snags are Real!
Our adventure began bright and early, leaving the hustle of Ho Chi Minh City (or wherever you might be starting from in Dong Nai or Ba Ria Vung Tau Province). After a pleasant ride, we arrived at our first secret spot, ready for the main event: the Barramundi.
Now, let’s talk about the Vietnamese Barramundi. Forget the ones you might have caught elsewhere—these beauties are tough, aggressive, and incredibly fun to fight. We were targeting fish in the 1.5kg to 5kg range, which is just the perfect size for a thrilling lure-fishing battle. This is where the family fun truly began! Picture this: Dad trying to look cool with a perfect cast, only to have a ferocious Barra smash the lure right at his feet, nearly pulling the rod from his hands! Lots of shouts, plenty of laughs, and the satisfying zing of the drag.

The Barramundi, known locally as Cá Chẽm, is a ferocious predatory fish that thrives in these brackish environments. Landing one feels like a real victory. And the best part? For lunch, we enjoyed a delicious meal of the very Barramundi fish we caught ourselves. It doesn’t get fresher than that!

A Hilarious Incentive: The Big Fish Bonus!
Speaking of big fish, the tour has a fantastic incentive that makes the whole day feel like a treasure hunt: the chance to get a bonus up to $100 USD/fish when you successfully conquer an especially big catch! This added a wonderful layer of competitive (but friendly!) excitement, with everyone keeping a close eye on the scales!

The Main Event: Bull Arena Fishing Park – Home of the River Titans
As the afternoon rolled in, we headed to what can only be described as a freshwater angler’s paradise: the legendary Bull Arena Fishing Park. After a quick check-in at our comfortable accommodation, we were straight into the action. This place is huge—over 17,000 square meters, with a 10,000+ square meter water surface—but what truly sets it apart is the jaw-dropping diversity of giant fish lurking beneath the surface. This is THE place for Giant fresh water fishing tour enthusiasts!
Night fishing in Vietnam is a magical experience, especially at the Bull Arena. Imagine sitting by the lake, the air filled with the sounds of nature, and the sheer anticipation of what monstrous catch might take your bait.

The Planetary Giants of Bull Arena
The species list here is not for the faint of heart. This isn’t your grandad’s little fishing pond; this is the domain of truly colossal creatures. If you’re looking for an unforgettable fishing trip in Viet Nam, you have to see this diversity to believe it:
-
Mekong Giant Catfish (10-60 kg): These river giants can reach truly staggering sizes. Hooking one is like tying your line to a runaway motorcycle. The fight is legendary!
-
Siamese Carp (10-40 kg): The largest species of carp in the world! They are massive, powerful, and a huge challenge for any angler. You’ll need to hold on tight!
-
Arapaima (40-60 kg): Often called the world’s largest freshwater fish. This prehistoric-looking titan is an absolute bucket-list catch. The shear power of these fish is incredible.
-
Asian Carp (10-20 kg) & The Predatory Crew: Adding to the mix are formidable Asian Carp, along with the toothy Alligator Gar and the brightly colored, powerful Amazon Redtail Catfish.
Wrestling these giants under the stars, followed by a great dinner right by the lake, made for an incredible family bonding experience.

Day 2: The Final Haul and Last Laughs
Day two at Bull Arena Fishing Park was all about redemption, strategy, and more fish! After a hearty breakfast, we were back on the banks. The morning session is often the most productive, and we landed several more impressive catches. It’s a great feeling to watch a child (or even your partner!) successfully reel in a fish that’s nearly as big as they are!
After one last satisfying lunch and sharing our epic fish stories, it was time to pack up our gear and the unforgettable memories. Our fishing tour in Vietnam concluded with the realization that we had not just caught fish, but we had truly experienced the unique, action-packed, and family-friendly side of fishing in this beautiful country.

If you’re planning your next family adventure, make sure to look into a trip to chase the mighty Barramundi and the freshwater titans at the Bull Arena Fishing Park. It’s the perfect blend of sport, nature, and pure family fun.
