Saltwater Monster Fishing & Saigon Halloween Tour

Monster Fishing in Saigon: Fighting Giants at Ón Saltwater Fishing Park and Chasing Halloween Thrills in Ho Chi Minh City

For passionate monster fish anglers around the globe, the thrill of the chase isn’t just a hobby—it’s a relentless obsession. We spend our lives hunting for that heart-stopping strike, the deafening scream of a tight drag, and the brute strength of saltwater predators that bend graphite rods to their absolute breaking point. While Southeast Asia has long been famous for freshwater mega-fauna, a brand-new frontier has emerged for saltwater lure fishing enthusiasts right in the heart of Southern Vietnam: Ón Saltwater Fishing Park.

On our latest expedition to Ho Chi Minh City, our international crew set out to test our gear against the legendary giants lurking in Can Gio’s coastal waters. What followed was an unforgettable journey combining world-class big game fishing with the energetic, glowing celebration of Halloween in bustling Saigon.

Discovering a Saltwater Angler’s Paradise: Ón Saltwater Fishing Park

Located just over 40 kilometers from the vibrant center of Ho Chi Minh City, Ón Saltwater Fishing Park (situated at 22 De Goc Tre, An Thoi Dong, Can Gio, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) feels like a hidden sanctuary crafted specifically for sport fishermen. Developed from a massive natural shrimp lagoon stretching across more than 15 hectares, the park features a diverse terrain of deep channels, underwater drop-offs, and mangrove structure down to depths of 5 meters.

Having officially celebrated its grand opening on August 29, 2026, Ón Saltwater Fishing Park is rapidly earning its reputation as a premier destination for saltwater lure fishing in Vietnam. What immediately impressed our group was the management’s commitment to quality over crowd size. To ensure every angler enjoys a top-tier, uncrowded experience, the park strictly caps capacity at no more than 20 rods per day. Supported by warm, hospitality-trained staff, you never have to worry about crossed lines or noisy bank anglers—just pristine water and aggressive saltwater game fish.

Bending Graphite: The Thrill of Taming Saltwater Monsters

From the moment our lures hit the brackish, tidal waters, the action was nonstop. The average fish size in the lagoon ranges between a solid 3 kg and 8 kg, but the true lure for trophy hunters is the leviathans—monster predators in the 10+ kg and 20+ kg range hiding in the deep pockets. Because the lagoon is regularly restocked, the bite rate stays consistently high throughout the day.

Our target species list read like a dream menu for saltwater casting and jigging: hard-fighting Barramundi, powerful Groupers, lightning-fast Cobia, dynamic Giant Trevally (GT), razor-toothed Barracuda, acrobatic Tarpon, energetic Ladyfish, Seabream, and muscle-bound Gray Eel-Catfish.

For our morning session, we opted for the Boat Package, hiring a dedicated boat with an English-speaking assistant for 1,500,000 VND per day (a Vietnamese-speaking boat assistant option is also available at 1,000,000 VND per day, accommodating up to 2 anglers per boat). Paddling quietly into the deeper sections, my fishing partner pinned a topwater swim-bait near an undercut bank. Within seconds, the water exploded. A massive 12 kg Barramundi launched itself completely out of the lagoon, shaking its gills in a furious aerial display.

After a blistering ten-minute battle of harrowing runs and heavy surges, our guide deftly scooped the trophy fish into the net. Thanks to the park’s exciting Bounty Fish Rewards program—which offers cash bounties ranging from 100,000 VND up to 1,000,000 VND for fish over 13.01 kg hooked cleanly inside the mouth—landing that 12 kg beauty earned us a proud 500,000 VND cash reward right on the spot!

From Mangrove Wilderness to Saigon Nightlife: A Spooktacular Halloween Night

After an exhausting yet rewarding day of battling saltwater giants in Can Gio, our group headed back into the pulsing heart of central Ho Chi Minh City. The timing of our fishing trip couldn’t have been more perfect: the city was fully immersed in the magical, chaotic energy of Halloween night.

The contrast was breathtaking. Just hours prior, we were standing in serene coastal mangroves, surrounded only by the splash of leaping Barramundi and the chirp of nature. Now, we found ourselves surrounded by neon lights, vibrant costumes, and thousands of joyful revelers on the famous Bui Vien Walking Street. The entire strip was a electrifying tapestry of creative Halloween costumes, live street performances, bass-heavy beats, and lively outdoor pubs where travelers from every corner of the globe swapped stories over ice-cold Saigon beer.

From the wildly energetic Bui Vien, we strolled over to the grand expanse of Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street. Lined with historic French colonial architecture on one side and glittering skyscrapers on the other, the boulevard was filled with families, local youths, and international visitors showing off elaborate cosplay outfits.

We capped off our night scaling up to one of Saigon’s premier rooftop lounge bars overlooking the winding Saigon River, sipping artisanal cocktails as we looked back toward the dark horizon of Can Gio. Sitting high above the illuminated city, reminiscing about the 10+ kg monsters that almost snapped our lines earlier that day while soaking in Saigon’s rich urban culture, we knew we had experienced something truly extraordinary.
